The examinee must take the Life in the UK test when he or she is ready to settle more permanently in the United Kingdom or when the decision to apply for British naturalization or indefinite leave to remain has arisen. People who will be taking the exam has been in the United Kingdom for a five year period, has not been outside the United Kingdom for more that 450 days, hasn’t been outside the United Kingdom in the last 12 months of the five year period, and hasn’t committed any breach of immigration laws in that five year period in ordinary applications but for people who are married to British citizens all these timelines are reduced to a three year period.
The Life in the UK test has certain exemptions these are the: people who are over 65 years old, people who are suffering from long term illness or disability that affects mobility and learning a new language, and people who suffer from mental disability which could simply mean that learning will be difficult.
The biggest consideration as well is the emotional readiness to take a plunge into something as definite as transplanting one’s life to another country by being its naturalized citizen or permanent resident, learning the social mores, the traditions, and the culture. Also the financial readiness to take on the fees that comes with process of applying for the citizenship or residency has to be considered and patience has to be acquired for the waiting time in the whole process.
